Morocco Tuesday Evening 10/20

We've had a few flat days here in Moroc and took some time to explore other parts of the region. We headed into Paradise Valley for a day of hiking, mint tea and time with the local Berber population. The Berbers pride themselves on family and provide hospitality that is second to none, truly kind and hospitable peoples. Paradise Valley is a break from the dry dusty desert air and provides some shade, banana trees, waterfalls and lagoons to enjoy. The mountains surround the area and it is possible to become completely lost in the beauty.

We are expecting some swell on Thursday in the 12 to 13 foot range at 15 to 16 seconds, I'll be sure to take some pics and vid for everyones viewing pleasure. This coastline is filled with waves for any type of riding. There are fat slow points that are perfect for longboards or fun boards, there are beach breaks that provide space to yourself and there are points and reef breaks that are straight out of a surf magazine.

If you are willing to explore it is possible to find a perfect barreling reef break to yourself....yes yourself. This is the allure of Morocco that brought us to North Africa, and the allure has proven itself a reality. Stepping off the beaten road, hiking down a cliff to see what hides below is part of the journey, the adventure. It almost seems unfair when you find a slab to yourselves with no one but the local kids and fisherman to witness. People whom have no idea what surfing is and tell you that they have only seen a handful of surfers or surfboards in their lifetime. Amazing considering we are only a 45 minute bus ride, hour or so hike and heaven away from a fairly bustling surf city.

Perhaps one of the most interesting thing is the complete lack of Americans. We've been told by several people that years have past between the last time they met an American. We have still yet to meet any others and quite frankly it is wonderful to be in such a removed area. As you can tell from the pics this place sucks, stay away and don't ever be tempted. There is some reasoning behind my lack of surf pics. Firstly I'm a selfish type and prioritize getting some over taking pics, secondly well...I guess there is no secondly, with the up coming swell we will make sure to post some.

internet connection is weak here in Morocco, so check out youtube.com and search Zapstix to find some Moroc videos as it is easier to post them on youtube than anywhere else.

Much love to everyone back home, enjoy the swell to come and get some good ones.

From Morcoc,
Kris

Morocco Introduction

Hello From Moroc,

We have arrived in beautiful Morocco and I will be putting up some surf stoke as well as general Moroc stoke about once a week. The country is quite beautiful as are the people and most are quite open and friendly.

Here is the meal prepared for us by our new friends in Targhazhout. The food is fresh and has exceptional flavor.
Here is a view north of the main street in our town. October is in between the summer tourist season and the prime surf season and the town is quite empty, mostly locals. We are the only Americans in our town and we've been told the only Americans for quite some distance as well.
The sunset from our roof top terrace. The terrace acts as a relaxing space, living room, kitchen, laundry room and movie theater. Wonderful views of Anchor Point in the background. There was no swell at this sunset, however we will have swell arriving in the next few days.
There are colorful flours growing up the sides of the homes on our street.
Our new home, intimate street....we think it's the best in Targhazhout.

We have been able to surf everyday despite the lack of swell. Froathing surfers have left cameras behind for the first five days worth of surfing....however we'll get some surf stoke up in the next few days.

From Moroc,
Kris

Friday

It's a Sunny and gorgeous day on the beach. Unfortunately there isn't much swell around. Today we are seeing the occasional knee high set, winds are stiff north-ish currently. It looks like a possibility of some surf building through the weekend. We'll keep you posted.

Sounds Of Waves was a blast this past Monday at Surf Side 5. Thanks to all that attended and made the evening a blast. We enjoyed live music, surf flicks, and fun for all ages. The groms got some fun giveaways and the bigger groms enjoyed drinks and a great surf film from Monumental Films.

If you missed the film stop by the shop we have the movie for sale (and likely playing), the come with a soundtrack, DVD and BluRay.

O'Neill Psycho Freaks are in, if you have not seen this suit in person you need to stop in and check 'em out. They have hollow air chamber technology that provides superior warmth in a more flexible, lighter and thicker suit. Stop in and scope it for yourself.

We've got new boards in from Oxbow, Stretch, JC and soon we'll have some new Surf Prescriptions.

There seems to be a change in the air lately, the evening temps are cooler and those dawn patrol sessions can cause a little chill. Pretty soon we'll be reaching for our warmer suits. Let's just hope that as the temp drops the solid swell starts to arrive.

See you in the water,

Saturday

Still pretty sloppy but fun out there, waist plus drops on the sets with the incoming tide this evening.  Wind is still stiff out of the NE, and it's pretty much just a training day.

Overnight we should see winds diminish and expect to see more organized conditions for Sunday, and a new ground swell showing up start of the week.  Keep posted but it looks like some fun thigh to stomach days in store.

It feels like Fall today on the beach with cool breezes and empty beaches.  Everyone has their eyes on the latest swell potential for this weekend.  This isn't going to be quite the event that Bill brought last weekend but we will see some swell.
Here is the latest path and timetable.

We should have a better idea by Friday night as to what path/how close to us (read strong winds) Danny will come.  Check back.
